Academia de Español Guatemala

The Guatemala Spanish Academy (Academia de español Guatemala, has over 12 years of experience teaching spanish, it is a School endorsed by the Guatemalan Ministry of Education and the Guatemalan Tourism Board (Inguat). We specilize in 100% spanish immersion courses for all levels. Our student/teacher Ratio is one on one, and may be taken for up to seven hours daily.

To ensure quality, the majority of our teachers have a minimum of 10 years experience in teaching spanish as a second language. They are all native Guatemalans who have had more than 100 hours of education training, which is updated every six months.

Our methology is: Students and teachers work one on one, wich allows each student to work at his/her individual level. We place particular emphasis on flexibility: Studentes place pick the areas they wish to emphazise - conversation, comprehension, writing, etc. The school offers a relaxed , tranquil enviroment, with a choice of studying inside a colonial home or a bouganvillia - filled courtyard. Some students enjoy working in the park, or strolling through town with their proffessors. A few have even been known to study over a beer in a local cantina! The student's schedule is entirely up to the student, our teachers are here for you.

Courses begin with mini dialogues as a total system for learning grammar, vocabulary and survival skills. Experts claim that Guatemala is the perfect country  in which to learn Spanish. Because the speech is pure with few adopted English words and slang. Courses work focus on daily life - assignments might include reading the local paper, listening to the news or discussing politics, local entertainment or current events. Textbooks used include Amsco 1, Amsco 2. Amsco 3, and our own material. + Students generally change teachers every week.

We also offer individualized programming: The first day of classes, students discuss their specific needs with their professor. An initial oral exam determines a customized program designed to meet each student's goals.  Upon completing the course, students receive a final exam, written and oral, to determin their level of fluency in spanish. These exams are optional, but many educational institutions accept them for school credits.

During the course of study, you may choose to live  with a Guatemalan Family here in Antigua. All families are within walking distance of the school, and each students has his/her own room. Living arrengments can be made for cuples and families, but it is necessary to arrenge this well in advance. The school can also provide a variety of recomendations ranging from luxury hotels to modest pensions for students wishing to make their living arrengements on their own.

From the point that you contact us and decide to come to Guatemala, one of our staff members will be assigned to your account, who will become your personall advisor all trough out the process of travelling and learning spanish in our school.

Classes are held monday trough friday: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm, except for official holidays. The 7 hour schedule includes two one-half hour breaks, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
