La Antigua Guatemala,
the city where
our school is located, offers the perfect environment in which to study
Spanish. This picturesque, cobble stoned Spanish Colonial City enjoys a near
perfect climate and has been called "The Land of Eternal Spring." Situated
at 5000 feet, the temperature is forever splendid with highs in the 70's and
lows in the mid-50's. From May to October is rainy season, but frequent
afternoon showers generally last only about an hour, leaving the air cool
and crisp.
In Antigua and its surrounding villages, students will enjoy a wide variety
of stimulating cultural adventures. Whether one wishes to climb the local
volcanoes, explore Mayan ruins or simply sit in the Parque Central absorbing
the graceful timelessness of this jewel city, Antigua offers something for
everyone.

Semana Santa (Easter Week)
All of our teachers and students got together in observing the local
tradition of making an alfombra, a flower and
sawdust carpet, in the shape
of a Mayan huipil that is still worn throughout Guatemala. We added the
school logo in the spot where one's head would usually go! The whole
alfombra experience was a complete blast with students and teachers alike
sharing an evening of camaraderie, laughs and Guatemalan tradition.

We started the alfombra at 9:00 pm Thursday night and finished or 11am Good
Friday morning, just in time to see all or our hard work trampled by the
local procession. It was worth it though - an experience none of us will
ever forget.
